  • Remove the Lid and Wash It - With dish soap and warm water, wash the lid and reservoir. You can wash it in the sink with hot water and dishwashing soap or detergent. If there are algae or mildew on the lid, dip your washcloth or sponge in a mixture of vinegar and a cup of water. Use it to wipe off the mold and algae on the lid.
  • Remove the Filter and Set It Aside - As we earlier stated, if the filter is due for a change, that is after it has filtered 40 gallons of water, change it. Also, if you have used it for up to two months (for the standard pitcher), replacing it is paramount. Otherwise, rinse it off with warm water. After that, place the filter on a clean surface so that it's not contaminated.
  • Remove and Wash the Reservoir - Rest the reservoir in a sink. Wash with dish soap or detergent and warm water and rinse  with a soft cloth. Make sure you wipe the inside and outside of the reservoir and every other part of the reservoir.
